– When the manager/boss finds out, the first thing he/she will worry about is if your relationship (even if it was just a one night stand) will affect your and your date’s performance at work.
In fact, some organizations have policies that prohibit these types of relationships.
According to Vault.com's 2010 Office Romance Survey, almost 60 percent of respondents admitted to having participated in some form of workplace romance.
However, the numbers changed sharply when the dating relationship changed from being between co-workers to being between manager and subordinate--80 percent believed that relationships between superiors and subordinates should be prohibited.
Even in environments where relationships are permitted in the workplace between managers and subordinates, those involved in these relationships need to maintain a professional distance while on the job.The Society for Human Resource Management and Career conducted a Workplace Romance survey in 2006 and found that only 9 percent of the HR professionals surveyed indicated that dating among employees was prohibited in their organizations.
